Fred Travers

Fred Travers makes his home in Huntingtown, Maryland (Washington D.C. area) with his wife, Kyle and son Carl.  His daughters Emma and Jenny are now grown and married, with Jenny giving Fred his first grandsons, Cooper and Austin.  Fred is a quiet family man, having recently retired from the Anne Arundale Fire Department.  He now spends his time traveling to watch his son's college baseball games and visiting his grandchildren in North Carolina.  He also makes time for his part time job as one of the top Dobro players in bluegrass music, with a little band known as The Seldom Scene.

Fred Travers began his musical career late in life, when wife Kyle purchased Fred a Dobro and lessons from then Seldom Scene Dobroist, Mike Auldridge.  He began playing with local musician Gary Ferguson and his band from 1989 til 1995, and also played some gigs with Paul Adkins and the Borderline Band.  When Mike Auldridge left the Scene in 1995 to pursue a job with the band Chesapeake, it seemed like a perfect fit that John Duffey would call on the highly qualified Fred Travers to take his place.

Fred fit in perfectly with the band, not only can he play the Dobro like a master, he has the high, sweet tenor voice to expertly accompany John Duffey's.  Fred performs many of the groups ballad's, with fan favorite's being "Walk Thru This World With Me" and "From the Moment On".
